A Focus on Basics

Dear Friends and Sponsors:

A fundamental part of the political change we have seen this year is the call to return to a more basic approach to the mission of government. It is a refocusing on what is both fiscally prudent and appropriate for government at all levels.

We are hopeful that, as a part of this shift in political direction, there is a recognition that:

• Transportation infrastructure is vital to our economic competitiveness
• Cooperative strategies in the delivery of the services of local government can promote both efficiency and effectiveness; and
• Support for local businesses is central to improving economic conditions.

These three areas were the focus of what we did this past year and will chart our course of action for 2011. No matter the perspective on what the current political change means, the engagement of our local business community will be essential. The foundation of the Progress Council is that local business leadership is fundamental for the betterment of the Mid Mon Valley. If one thing is clear, more than ever before, it will be up to us! This begins with sponsorship -- but it does not end there.
