Dear Friends and Sponsors:
There are a number of first impressions I have upon becoming president of the Mon Valley Progress Council.
First, we’re involved in a range of actions that most sponsors and even board members may not fully appreciate. Second, our organization is widely known throughout southwestern Pennsylvania. Third, our connecting more closely with current and prospective sponsors is crucial to our organization’s continued viability.
Our objectives, including actions on the Mon Valley/Fayette Expressway and regional initiatives in areas from Smart Government to the Mid Mon Valley Regional Enterprise Zone, can and will make a difference in our region. But we also need to be closely connected to our sponsorship base. This means undertaking more actions that directly benefit our sponsors and other companies in the Mid Mon Valley.
I have appreciated the support of the Progress Council’s Executive Committee for a new initiative in the area of drug abuse. The title of the initiative “Progress is ... reducing abuse in local businesses” recognizes that the productivity of Mid Mon Valley firms, including our sponsors, is directly impacted by the scourge of drugs.
In 2008, we will be conducting a survey of area firms on this issue and will sponsor a series of meetings to develop specific actions. Yes, it is a major challenge but if we work together we can make a difference in the Mid Mon Valley.
